Welcome back to tag posts with Average Joe. This time we have the Really Neat Blogger Award, with super special thanks to BiblioNyan for the tag, definitely check them and their awesome blog out. This tag is similar to The Brotherhood Award I did a while back (CLICK HERE for part 1 and CLICK HERE for part 2), where you are asked a series of questions by your tagger and respond accordingly. The rules are as follows:

  • Display the logo.
  • Thank the blogger that nominated you and share a link to their blog.
  • Answer the questions of the one who nominated you.
  • Nominated 7-10 bloggers.
  • Ask them 7 questions.

With that said, another huge thank you to BiblioNyan and let’s get into these questions.

Question 1. What is your favourite type of post to write?

Honestly, it’s my discussion posts. I know my name is Average Joe ‘Reviews’ but I think discussions are the thing I enjoy the most. I like the diversity that comes with writing them as well as the fact that it lets me go far greater into detail than reviews where I adhere to a specific structure. These discussions also fill the hole if I feel I have nothing to write about. Not to mention they are the posts that people seem to enjoy the most as well, and that really makes me happy since it makes writing them feel really worth it.

Question 2. What are two posts from this year that you feel most proud of?

This is super hard, considering I haven’t even been blogging for a year. I was scratching my head for a long time but I came to the conclusion that so far, these two posts are the ones I feel the most proud of.

  • How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Review. This was perhaps the most in-depth review I’ve done, I dissected a lot of the elements in this show and why to me it was such a great seasonal anime. CLICK HERE to read the full review.
  • Writing OP Characters the Right/Wrong Way. This is technically 2 posts itself, but they are both connected so they go together on this question. Like my Demon Lord review, this was my most in-depth discussion, where I talk about the difficult task of writing a character who is inherently overpowered. Part One discusses the wrong way to write them, while Part Two discusses how to write them correctly.

Question 3. What is your favourite feel-good narrative? (This can be from books, anime, video games, etc.)

I don’t really know what this question was, blame my stupidity not me, but from what I gathered it’s asking what book, anime etc. gave me the best feel good vibes. If that’s the case, then Super Sonico The Animation is perhaps the most feel good narrative for me. Sonico is a bundle of optimism along with her friends. The art style is so smooth and fluid, it’s so beautiful to look at. The show has no set narrative and is just little pockets of joy with each episode showing Sonico and her busy yet fun life. It’s such a laid back show and has such a friendly aura that I’ve watched it like 4 times just to catch some feel-good vibes. I also think Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid has some nice feel-good vibes too, and in terms of video games my favourite for its feel-good style is Kirby: Squeak Squad.

Question 4. If you could conquer any fear in this moment, what would it be?

Myself. This might be kinda personal, but one of my biggest fears is of myself. By this I mean I always get scared if what I’m doing is correct, right or even worth it. These feelings always weigh down on me and leave me feeling burnt out and inadequate. One of my ultimate goals is to overcome these feelings, and in some ways this blog does actually help me. If I was to actually summarize what I want to do with these fears, I shall quote my favourite line from ‘Ashes’ by Celine Dion “Let beauty come out of ashes“.

Question 5. What are two traits that you feel you do well as a blogger? (For example, writing good synopses, creating graphics, telling jokes, etc.)

I pride myself on my analytical look at things. I always go into great detail about certain aspects of a discussion or review. I do this particularly when it comes to characters and themes since there’s a lot to look at and I like to unravel these two segments of a media. I also think I’m pretty good when it comes to sarcastic humor, I don’t joke all the time, but when I do I like to think it’s pretty funny. I usually do it to accentuate a fault or issue I have with something since I usually don’t like being too harsh so prefer to use humor to try to get my thoughts across. I don’t believe in negativity as a form of constructive or profound input, so

Question 6. Do you have a blogging pet peeve? If so, what is it?

I have only one pet peeve with blogging that I try to avoid. Self deprecating yourself in your posts. I know some bloggers are known for having a self-deprecating style, but I thin personally it’s something worth avoiding if it isn’t a part of your online identify. This is because while it can be done in a joking fashion, it can sometimes make viewers think you have no faith in your blog or yourself, which can really turn off viewers. Another pet peeve I have is that i cannot have a set schedule to my posts. I always aim for around 2 posts a week with 1 post as the absolute minimum. My Senran Kagura episode reviews add some structure and I aim to post based around their publishing dates. My job and own lack of free time means I usually can’t sit down and work on a set schedule.

Question 7. What inspires you to blog?

Well it’s difficult to say. If I was to say who my primary inspiration was, it would have to be a YouTuber called Brandon Tenold. He reviews a lot of cult horror and kaiju movies, and it was his videos that made me think ‘I want to do online media reviews too’. I know this will sound really corny, but what inspires me mainly is the people I’ve met since my time on WordPress. The supporting comments, the tags for posts like this one, their own awesome content and blogs, it all makes me feel proud to be a part of this community with you all. My Twitter is also a big place of inspiration too, I’ve met just as many awesome people on there as I have on WordPress, and from both people from twitter and WordPress, I’d like to say thank you.

  1. Thanks for the nomination! I’m not doing awards tags at the moment (might do them next year if I have the time for it) but thanks again anyway! I enjoyed reading your answers too! I enlist a lot of self-depreciating humour in my reviews but usually at the expense of my personality and general level of pervertedness rather than my ability to write!

  2. 1. Reviews are my bread and butter, but my fave posts are the end of year top fives.
    2. I am proud of my Last Jedi review. The movie wasn’t great, but the post got a lot of comments.
    3. Tsuredure Children puts a smile on my face. Funny jokes and cute moments too.
    4. I wish I could conquer shyness. Many times I miss out on things because speaking is hard.
    5. Consistency and humour are good blogger traits.
    6. My biggest peeve are fake followers. Some people never read my stuff and just follow to get a follow back.
    7. Computer game magazines and Youtubers are what inspired me to become a reviewer.

  3. Awesome answers and yes, you got the narrative question right! it was just poor wording on my part. *sobs* My pet peeves are similar to yours and The Otaku Judge. I don’t like fake followers; I just don’t see the point in it. Also, self-deprecating can become very awkward. I do make fun of my own fanpersoning with serials that I love and joke around with my overall silliness, but I try to avoid saying anything negative about myself and my passion, especially where blogging is concerned. As you said, it can be quite off-putting. Thank you for taking the time to do this tag. I appreciate it. ♥

    1. Thank you. I mean i don’t directly rip his style, but I just find his look at movies to be quite fun that’s what I aimed to achieve. Thanks for reading I’m glad you liked it. 😁 👍

  5. Congrats and thanks for the tag!
I often have difficulty coming up with topics for discussion posts, although maybe I just think too hard about what Id want to discuss. Keep doing what you do!

  6. Congrats on the award! I also am an equal admirer of your Writing OP Characters the Right/Wrong Way posts. Those turned out great. It was great learning more about you. Can’t wait for more self-deprecating humor from you in the future lol
