Hi all! Today is a bit of a celebration! Albeit it’s a little late of a celebration but it’s a celebration none the less. June 7th 2020 was the 2 year anniversary of Average Joe Reviews, which honestly took me by surprise. Honestly, it astounds me that it was 2 years to the day that I randomly decided to set up some lame review site, only for it to become bigger than I ever imagined. I may not scale up to some of the giants in the blogging community, but regardless it feels undeniable special to come this far in 2 years.
Growth as a Writer
Over these two years I have truly felt myself grown and evolve as a writer. I remember when I started Average Joe Reviews I was fixed on video game reviews, but a stray movie review helped me find my footing and establish myself more suited to movie and general pop culture discussions. Not only have I felt my focus and interest shift over these 2 years, but also the way that I carry myself in my words. Before I was really analytical and ‘matter of fact’ in my reviews, which isn’t a bad thing, but I feel in retrospect it limited me and my personalities ability to shine through in the posts, since I as a person am more inclined to write with feeling rather than analysis. At this point I feel like my style has reached the point I desired it to be, able to go for a more casual tone while still keeping things informative, after all this is a review blog still. I attribute this blog to my general writing style change, since the platform allowed me to experiment with ideas and blog concepts and find the ones I find most enjoyable and that resonate with me as a writer more.

Proudest Achievements
Happy Birthday Godzilla…I have to talk about this post because it still baffles me to this day how that post got so big. Out of all my posts over these last 2 years, Happy Birthday Godzilla holds the crown as my biggest post by such a large margin. Not including my Home Page, the second most popular post, Gamera Villains Ranked Best to Worst, isn’t even at half the views of Happy Birthday Godzilla, that blows my mind. I remember making that post as a joke, at this point embracing the meme that Godzilla was like the heart and soul of the blog at the time (which is kinda true) and thought of celebrating the Big G’s birthday with a simple ranking post, but since then its become my largest and perhaps proudest post yet. I, in fact, hold that post responsible for my shift in content from simple reviews to a more freeform discussion type of writing.
Senran Celebration Month, one of my top proudest moments in my blogging history. Senran Kagura is a series close to my heart, and I decided to show my appreciation by creating a marathon-style series of blogposts the whole month dedicated to Senran Kagura. This was probably the most consistent I was with posts, and I wish I could have kept it up, but real life and the current global environment kinda inhibits me, but that’s beside the point. Doing this was a lot of fun as it was both a return to my classic review style, as well as being just plain satisfying, creating a schedule for the posts and making sure to refine them all for release. This is something I would love to do in the future with another franchise, but only time will tell.
Finally, one of the most fulfilling, happy and downright amazing projects I worked on, The Space is the Place Tour. This was a collaboration event between a collection of bloggers to write posts based on space. My post Let’s Talk About Anime King Ghidorah from the Godzilla anime trilogy was my defense in honor of the controversial incarnation of Godzilla’s rival. This event made me truly feel like a part of the community and I absolutely had a blast participating. I genuinely felt like this tour was what made me realise just how extra special the blogging community really is. Able to collaborate, work with and enjoy the work of others blog posts, truly made the experience feel undeniably special.

Ending Thoughts and Looking to the Future
Now for the future of Average Joe Reviews. I’m sure people have noticed that my uploads have slowed down a lot compared to what they used to be. This has been mainly due to my need to be focused on other things in my life due to the current environment. I do still plan to blog and write whenever I can, rest assured Average Joe Reviews isn’t going anywhere. Blogging has been such a help for me as a person and a writer, I couldn’t possibly abandon it (plus who else is gonna talk about Godzilla like its going out of style?) but I don’t want to force myself to write a blogpost and be ultimatly dissatisfied with it. 2 Years of blogging was a massive surprise to me, but one I’m very proud of, and I have a multitude of ideas and plans for this blog in the future. So in the meantime everyone, stay safe, stay strong, stay awesome and always stay above average!
Till next time,
Average Joe Reviews.
