The Unique Blogger Award – Tag Post

unique-blogger-award.png

So I was having a bit of a backlog through some of the bloggers I follow. I was reading through the Weeabros blog and came across a tag post. I love reading these types of posts and gave it a look. The tag itself is similar to the Brotherhood award as well as the Really Neat Blogger Award. But nevertheless, Weeabro Derek said that if anyone wanted to do the tag, feel free, so you just know I have to do it. The rules are:

  • Display the award!
  • Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog. (Try and include a little bit of promotion!)
  • Answer the questions they’ve written for you!
  • Nominate bloggers and give them three questions in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity within our blogging family!

(Quick note, despite this being Weeabro Derek’s post I’m responding to, the questions below were provided by Yomu, check out his Unique Blogger Award here)

Now let’s get into the questions!

What is your favourite anime that has made you cry?

I haven’t seen any anime series that have made me cry per say, mainly because I don’t really watch anime with the intention to cry. But if I have cried at a few anime movies. One of which is My Neighbour Totoro. It was the moment where the youngest girl Mei is told about her mum in hospital, causing her to suddenly break down. For me, an anime crying scene is made or broken by the way the tears are animated, and for me, the more flowing and glimmering tears are, the more powerful they are. The suddenness of the crying and the glimmering of the tears really made me feel for the scene and it made me tear up. There is however one movie that made me cry way harder, Pokemon the Movie: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. This movie’s ending has Lucario die as he finally forgives his old master Sir Aaron, his body slowly fading away. His final words being “Sir Aaron is waiting for me.” The first time I saw this, I weeped for a good ten minutes, I was wrecked by it. I cannot find a clip of it, but if you ever see the movie, know that it’s ending destroyed me.

Have you ever felt motivated by any specific anime? Which one and why?

There are a lot of anime that have helped fuel my motivation, some pretty obvious, other not so much. A odvious one is Dragon Ball, it motivates me to always aim to be stronger, both physically and mentally, the presence of ultra instinct is what motivated me to actually start working out more often, I don’t know why though since it’s not like a distracted mind like mine can attain such a state, but hey it got me to go outside so that’s a win. I’m also motivated by One Punch Man, the idea that a mere man can rise to a level so obsured he stands unmatched. In terms of some more obscure choices for motivation, I have to go with Inuyashiki Last Hero and How not to Summon a Demon Lord

This one will probably result in either very simple or complex answers – why did you decide upon the username & blog name you chose?

Ok, so because of the rule of their being three questions, I’ve decided to go with the complex answer for this one, that way I feel satisfied writing it and the post doesn’t end up being too short. But the story of how my blogging name Average Joe came to be is one that has gone back quite some years. It all started with an old book idea I had a few years ago, in which it would follow someone named Average Joe, but he would be surrounded by various other ‘Joes’ all with names reflecting their predominant personality trait like the Smurfs. But this idea was scrapped as I began to focus more on another writing project, but the idea remained. When I decided to take up blogging I was contemplating using my typical online pseudonym but elected against it since that name was literally everywhere else. I decided to use Average Joe because not only does it link back to my name, but also in this sea of the internet where people always aim to be these larger than life entities, I wanted to have a name that left me more grounded and seem more approachable. The name kinda stuck and from there I decieded to use it for my blogging name. The ‘Reviews’ part of my name came from my original intention to be solely a ‘review’ based blog, but as we all know, that didn’t last. I am in fact thinking of changing my name to Average Joe Blogs instead, but that’s something I’ll look into later down the line.

While we’re on the topic actually, we now have an official mascot for the blog! Yes after 6 months of blogging I decided to draw an avatar and have decided that it shall be our mascot. Say hello to the face of Average Joe Reviews!

With that, the Unique Blogging Award has come to an end. This was actually a lot of fun and I was glad I discovered it on Weeabro Dereks blog. I would nominate people, but considering this was taken from a pretty old post, I don’t think I should nominate anyone since it would be kind of redundant. Not to mention I did a tag recently and don’t want to swarm people with nominations. So you know what? Everyone who reads this post, consider yourself nominated.

I may not have nominated anyone specifically but hey, you need to give question, so for anyone that wants to do it, my questions are:

  • Have there been any anime that have inspired you or influenced you in any way and if they have how have they done so?
  • This is a generic one, but why do you love anime?
  • What is your favourite aspect of anime itself? (Mine is the fact that it allows us to escape the real world and journey to ones we enjoy.)

  1. Love the mascot! It’s distinct and makes it easy for readers to remember you.
And I may have cried with you if I had seen that Pokemon movie. Loved that show when I was a kid and even played the games too.

  2. Hey my questions made it to your blog, that’s pretty neat.
Love the story about your blog’s name, I actually think that idea sounds pretty interesting!
I like the mascot / icon that you’ve been using for your blog too.

I think Average Joe Reviews sounds good personally, but of course it’s your decision. Average Joe Blogs sounds ok too, maybe I’m just too used to your current blog name!
